Notes

This album was released with two cover variations (see pictures): one with the letters printed in red ink (on this version, the background color on the back cover is stronger), and another one with the letters printed in purple ink (on this version, the background color on the back cover is lighter).

The hardest one to find is the one with the letters printed in red ink.
Discussion about Kininho Dornelles - Kininho Dornelles
Kekinos
This is one of the greatest recent discoveries in terms of Brazilian Psychedelic Folk/Progressive Rock. Kininho Dornelles (a former member of Grupo Terra Livre) is from the extreme south of Brazil, bordering Uruguay, and this geographic issue is reflected in the album’s music.Anyone who expects to listen something that sounds like European bands, be it Jethro Tull, Yes, Genesis or Fairport Convention, should stay away. The main reference here is Quintal De Clorofila, but it is not a mere copy. On the contrary, the album is full of personality. This album is for adventurous spirits, interested in listening to an album with a lot of personality that combines global elements (European Psychedelic Folk/Progressive Rock) with local elements (the influences of Gaucho music - from the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul). After a slow start with the beautiful song "Vertentes" (written by Basílio Conceição, who was once considered the “Gaucho Bob Dylan”), the album catches fire with the amazing "O Preso", and there follows a breathtaking sequence of songs from "O Preso" to "Tropilha de Escuros". Side B follows the same formula, and has in "Rubros Caminhos" its great highlight (in my opinion, although, to some, the song “Baguala” should be considered the best one). The musicians's performance on the album should be highlighted. While Gil Soares is the outstanding individual, with his incredible flute and saxophone playing, guitarist Goya Santos is also responsible for many of the great moments of the album, performing some nice lead guitar duets with Gil Soares' flute/saxophone. The exquisite rhythm section, comprised of bassist Jorge Cambota and percussionist Iberê Azevedo, is also very good, having an unusual sense of rhythm, due to the eclecticism of the musicians, who play not only Rock, but also Folk music from Rio Grande do Sul, what adds a different music flavor to the album. Kininho Dornelles provides the adequate vocal interpretation for the songs. In summary, it is a great album (and also a great rarity), with the warning that it is an acquired taste. This album is recommended for those who do not want to listen more of the same, but something sophisticated and at the same time very unusual in terms of Psychedelic Folk/Progressive Rock, with a strong South American folk flavor. Those who appreciate this album should also look for some songs released by Kininho Dornelles only on various artists albums, such as the amazing song “América do Sonho”, released only on “4ª Charqueada Da Canção Nativa De Pelotas”.
